De "Hall of Fame Award" is dit jaar voor het eerst uitgerijkt. In deze categorie strijden de voorgaande winnaars van de "Overall Open Source CMS Award" tegen elkaar, dit jaar alleen nog Joomla en Drupal. Joomla! is tweede geworden.

The 2008 Open Source CMS Awards winners were announced on October 31 2008 with Joomla! coming in second place. Following six weeks of intense voting, Packt revealed the Content Management Systems that have made the final of the four different categories

The Packt Open Source Content Management System Award is designed to encourage, support, recognise and reward Open Source Content Management Systems (CMS) that have been selected by a panel of judges and visitors to www.PacktPub.com. Joomla! Wins 'Best CMS Awards' Again! - 2007

Packt Publishing today announced Joomla! as the winner of "Best PHP Open Source Content Management System" for 2007. The award marks the second time Joomla! has won a prestigious Packt prize. Runners up were Drupal, followed by e107.

The judges indicated that Joomla! is 'possibly one of the biggest success stories in open source of late'. "Its first release came in only September 2005 and since then has grown to be one of the most downloaded Content Management Systems on the web.

The judges also noted a number of factors that helped Joomla! secure the Award. "Most notably its good front-end for administrators and end-users, which gives users a simple and traditional company website straight out of the box. Once again, judges commented on the size and responsiveness of the community, which translates to potential problems being dealt with quickly..."

Joomla! 2006 Open Source CMS Award Winner

Packt Publishing announced today that Joomla was the winner of the best open source content management system award. Over 16,000 people voted for their favourite open source CMS and then the final decision was down to a judging panel. Joomla! triumphed with the most votes.
The judges had strong compliments for all finalists, with some of the highlights listed below for Joomla!:
- Very easy to install and use with lots of extensions and modules
- The documentation is exhaustive and concise
- Admin user interface is intuitive and powerful
- The backend of Joomla! is very usable and the WYSIWYG editor the content was nice
- Seems like it would scale well and provides a lot of customization options
- Large and active community
